Escape to the Wisconsin Northwoods

We just had an amazing stay in one of Coady’s Point of View Lake Resort’s dog-friendly cabins, and I think it’s the perfect place for a spring escape! The resort sits on North Twin Lake, 15 minutes north of Eagle River and 7 minutes south of Phelps. Such a cozy stay with total Northwoods vibes! They said it best themselves when they claimed they were the place “Where Roughing it Doesn't Have to Be That Rough.”

Looking for a spring break that is actually a break? They have everything you need to take it easy. Our cabin had a full kitchen, comfortable living space, and two bedrooms. You can just lounge in your cozy cabin or take a short stroll over to the rec room to play a board game or shoot some pool. The quick drive into Eagle River gives you access to some really great restaurants and locally owned shops. This is the perfect place to recharge!

POV offers an amazing Romantic Getaway Package that we absolutely loved! This add-on gives you 10% off your stay, a $75 giftcard to one of our favorite northwoods restaurants– The Craftsman American Tavern in Downtown Eagle River, alcoholic beverages waiting for you upon arrival (21+), a box of chocolates, a set of POV coffee mugs, and some fancy hot chocolate. We put it all to good use!

Here is the perfect 3 day itinerary to recharge in Wisconsin’s Northwoods:

DAY 1

Coady’s Point of View Lake Resort

3932 N Primich Way, Phelps, WI 54554

Arrive at the cabin and get all settled in! Stretch your legs on a walk around the resort. Check out the rec room, lake front, and campground.

Check out a local brewery!

Get your vacation started by trying out some local beers. Here are a few options for you to choose from:

Rock Reef Brewing

1101 1st Ave, Woodruff, WI 54568

This trip we checked out Rocky Reef. It’s the furthest away from POV, but we really liked it and felt it was worth a little extra time in the car. The space is nice and the beers we tried were excellent! I really liked Karate Boots, a fruit punch Kettle Sour. Hayden recommends the Juicer McGavin, a double dry hopped IPA. Dogs are allowed inside, and even though they don’t serve food, you are welcome to bring your own. Pack a snack or stop at Minocqua Popcorn and pick one up on your way!

Tribute Brewing

1106 N Bluebird Rd, Eagle River, WI 54521

I stopped into Tribute Brewing in Eagle River this past summer. They also don't serve food, so plan accordingly, but they do have a nice space and dogs are welcome on the patio. I really enjoyed Blueberry Train, a wheat ale.

St. Germain Brewing Company

8000 Hwy 70E, St Germain, WI 54558

We haven’t been to St. Germain Brewing yet, but it’s on our list! They serve up a full food menu with their beers.

Fish Fry

Now that you’ve got a taste for something local, it’s time to make your way to dinner. You know we love a Friday Fish Fry!

Honey Bear

5430 WI-70, Eagle River, WI 54521

Honey Bear is exactly what I love about a Northwoods establishment—cozy, big portions, friendly waitstaff, and really great food! To be honest, I was a little sticker shocked first looking at the menu. Their Honey Bear Fish Fry was $21. That felt a bit steep to us for a fish fry, but when we got our order we understood—it was a big portion! 3 large pieces of beer battered cod that were nice and crispy, a side (get the potato salad! Hayden gave it an A), and rye bread. It was yummy and we both gave it a B+, but I don’t feel the need to go back for it due to the high price.

Blue Heron

Next time we’re in that neck of the woods, I would like to try Blue Heron Restaurant. They offer an all-you-can-eat fish fry that was recommended to us!

Relax

Now that your belly is full, head back to the cabin, make the hot cocoa from the romance package, turn on the fireplace, and kick back! POV has Rokus available for you to stream a movie during your cozy night in.

DAY 2

Start Slow

Brew up some coffee at the cabin. Sip it with your feet kicked up or on a stroll to the lakefront. Take in those beautiful views!

Explore Downtown Eagle River

Downtown Eagle River is home to lots of great shops. You can just walk a couple of blocks and pop into all the stores. Be sure not to miss Cotton + Birch, Hiker Box, and Minocqua Popcorn!

Lunch at The Craftsman American Tavern

118 S Main St, Eagle River, WI 54521

Fuel up for a hike with lunch at Craftsman. We have been here a few times, and everything we’ve tried has been so great! They make amazing cocktails and have a bunch of fun takes on a WI old fashioned. We loved the cheese curd and tater tot apps. Hayden liked their smashburger, and I thought their Brown Butter Cake was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

*Reminder!* If you booked the POV Romantic Getaway Package, don’t forget your gift card!

Hike Bond Falls

N 46º 24.528’, W 89º 7.974’ Bond Falls Road, Paulding, MI 49912

Just 35 miles north of POV in the UP, you can find Bond Falls—a widespread, impressive waterfall! The quick 1 mile loop takes you along the water to see both the upper and lower falls. It opens up to a large boardwalk with stunning views. The trail is well used, so the snow was already packed down, and we didn’t need our snowshoes. But even with fresh snow, it was icy in the steep spots. I’d recommend packing your YakTrax for some extra grip if you visit in the winter or spring!

Looking for a hike, but not up for the drive? POV has hiking trails on site for you to enjoy, and they even rent snowshoes!

Dinner Time

After some down time post hike (maybe utilize the rec room for a game of pool or have a beverage from your romance package!), you’ll surely be getting hungry for dinner. Here are some recommendations:

Buckshots Saloon & Eatery

2230 US-45 N, Eagle River, WI 54521

About 10 minutes away from POV, you’ll find Buckshots. We ordered a really tasty thin crust pizza for take out and enjoyed it fireside in the cabin. It was so crispy and delicious! We would definitely order from them again!

Eat at the cabin! Here are Julia’s Favorite Easy Recipes

Day 3

My bet is you’ll wake up feeling so refreshed but so sad to leave such a beautiful place—Make one last stop before you head out!

Pick up some breakfast

Roots - The Northwoods Juice Bar

321 E Wall St, Eagle River, WI 54521

Looking for a healthy, fresh start to your last day? Roots has you covered. They have pressed juices, really good smoothies, and the cutest space with a fun vibe!

Red Canoe Coffee

108 WI-70, St Germain, WI 54558

We visited Red Canoe this summer, and everything was so good! We got breakfast and warm drinks, and it was so cozy on a chilly morning. We highly recommend them, but be sure to check their hours before you go, as I think they will be closed for a little bit this spring.

There it is…the cute and cozy spring break you didn't know you needed! I hope you have the best getaway in Wisconsin’s Northwoods!
